Before I started my career as a financial services consultant, I was actually a secretary to the district. Having spent many years helping the district with their paperwork and underwriting issues, I realised that being in an administrative job was not getting me anywhere, and I had the time to understand the financial and insurance industry.
It was a leap of faith when I decided to take the SCI papers to be properly qualified as a consultant. Part of me was fearful for this sudden change in career path, but part of me knew that this was the right move.
I was able to provide for my children's education, something that worried me when I had an administrative job. I also learnt how to plan for my finances and that of my children's, a skill I am happy that I can impart to all my clients.
Because of the switch from admin to agent, I was able to afford the lifestyle I wanted for my family, and I was able to travel around the world. I applaud my colleagues and bosses for their support when I did the jump; for all their guidance and words of advice.
